Innovation begins with originality.
In contemporary workplace design, originality is both a creative pursuit and a long-term responsibility. As global design languages continue to evolve, the boundary between inspiration and replication has become increasingly complex. Yet authentic design remains rooted in research, iteration, and a sustained commitment to creating meaningful spatial experiences.
In November 2025, at ORGATEC INDIA, Sunon identified a product displayed by an overseas brand that closely resembled the design language of the Aulenti executive desk. Further review indicated that the same product was also presented through the brand’s official website.
The Aulenti series is a contemporary executive workspace collection, developed in collaboration with Italian design firm Vinci Design Studio. It is defined by a clear and structured design language that integrates aesthetics and functionality into a unified whole. Its octagonal geometry establishes balance and order across the system, while the sculptural angled leg detail introduces a distinctive visual tension that strengthens its identity within modern workplace environments.
The series has received international recognition, including the Gold Award at the A’ Design Award, the Good Design Award, and the China Red Star Design Award. In addition, Aulenti is further safeguarded by multiple registered patents in China.
These recognitions reflect the depth of design research, development, and collaboration behind the series, and reinforce a core belief that guides Sunon’s design approach: originality is not only an outcome, but an essential part of the design process itself.
At the same time, similar challenges have been observed in other markets. In one instance, product imagery closely resembling Sunon’s I-Key reception desk was found on the official website of another company, further illustrating the broader issue of unauthorized replication within the industry.
These cases reflect a shared reality in the global design landscape: as original design continues to generate value, the protection of intellectual property remains essential to ensuring fairness, responsibility, and sustainable innovation.
Over the years, Sunon has continuously strengthened its approach to intellectual property protection through structured investigation, documentation, and legal processes where necessary. The following cases demonstrate how this commitment has been put into practice.
In 2022, Sunon prevailed in a patent infringement case involving the I-Key reception desk, with the court fully supporting the company’s claims. The case resulted in the highest compensation award Sunon has obtained in a single patent enforcement matter. In a separate dispute concerning the Aulenti series, the matter was resolved through the opposing party’s acknowledgment of infringement and a subsequent settlement. By the end of 2025, Sunon had identified more than 140 instances of similar infringement and reached settlements with over 100 parties.
These efforts go beyond the protection of individual designs. They contribute to strengthening awareness of design responsibility across the industry and support a culture that values independent thinking, respects original work, and promotes responsible competition.
As design continues to shape the future of workplaces and living environments, Sunon remains committed to advancing original design, strengthening design integrity, and supporting a future where innovation is both recognized and respected.
