China Eastern Airlines Headquarters, Shanghai

In June 2018, China Eastern Airlines officially opened its new headquarters in Hongqiao, Shanghai. This $2.82 billion landmark project brought together the design expertise of East China Architectural Design & Research Institute and the workplace solutions of Sunon Office.

Customer Insights

Facing new challenges in the aviation industry—from high-speed rail competition to rising passenger expectations and rapid globalization—China Eastern sought to transform itself into a first-class international airline. To support this transformation, the company needed more than a building: it required an innovation-prone office that balanced efficiency, collaboration, and staff wellbeing.

Key requirements included:

  • Hassle-free and efficient aviation workflows.

  • Spaces that support collaboration, communication, and learning.

  • Ergonomic, sustainable office furniture for healthier work.

  • Technology integration to enhance brand image and efficiency.

  • Social and support areas to boost employee satisfaction.

Sunon’s Solution

Sunon redefined the headquarters into a one-stop hub, combining workspace, collaboration, and lifestyle needs. The design emphasized green, intelligent, and people-centric principles.

  • Transportation Control Center: Custom circular workstations and office table ideas tailored for 24/7 operations.

  • Check-in Center: Hexagon desks for fast crew communication, plus real-time digital displays.

  • Pre-departure Areas: Flexible conference tables (E-half, Ice Power) and ergonomic office chairs to reduce stress.

  • Social & Rest Spaces: Sofas, coffee tables, and lounge seating designed to foster relaxation and informal collaboration.

  • Staff Service Center: A one-stop solution with colorful, modular seating to simplify daily tasks.

Across all areas, Sunon incorporated sustainable design, green partitions, and ergonomic office furniture that aligned with the company’s vision of a people-first culture.

Result

The new headquarters demonstrates how Sunon Office creates workplaces that reflect corporate culture while driving innovation and efficiency. By balancing teamwork, well-being, and technology, Sunon helped China Eastern Airlines build a modern aviation workplace that inspires its people and strengthens its global brand.
