PROJECT OVERVIEW

Founded in 1983 in Taiwan, Advantech is a global technology leader specializing in industrial computing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and embedded computing platforms. Headquartered in Taipei, the company employs nearly 8,800 people worldwide, with operations spanning 27 countries. Advantech holds a leading position in the industrial computer market, with an estimated 41% global market share, and plays a significant role in advancing smart manufacturing, automation, edge computing, and AI-driven industrial solutions. Its technology helps businesses worldwide build more intelligent, connected, and efficient operations.

Sunon partnered with Advantech in late 2023 to help shape the furniture and workplace experience for its new Southern California headquarters. Over three years, Sunon provided complimentary workplace planning, furniture consultation, space planning, design and installation support—from early schematic design through final selections, installation drawings, and project delivery the Sunon USA Team was a dedicated partner from early development through to aftercare and support services.

Completed in August 2026, the 200,000-square-foot headquarters represents one of Sunon’s largest North American project to date. Spanning six floors and a diverse range of workplace settings, the project required a cohesive furniture solution that could support focused work, collaboration, learning, dining, and social connection.

Working closely with Advantech and Covenant Design Build & Construction Management, Sunon developed a furniture program that brings consistency and flexibility to every environment, from reception and private offices to workstations, conference rooms, training areas, cafés, and social spaces.

The result is a contemporary workplace where furniture, function, and design work together to create a consistent experience across a large and varied environment.

THE DESIGN CHALLENGE

Advantech needed a workplace designed to support an evolving organization. Changing team structures and workspace requirements meant the furniture needed to accommodate different configurations—including varying workstation and cubicle heights—without compromising the overall design.

The challenge was to create a workplace that felt cohesive today while remaining adaptable for tomorrow.

THE DESIGN SOLUTION

Sunon’s Surflex Panel System became the foundation for creating a work environment rooted in adaptability and continuous growth.  The Surflex Panel System is a flexible workstation environment with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Its modular construction allows panels to be reconfigured, adjusted, and reassembled without tools, creating the opportunity to evolve the workplace while maintaining design continuity.

The thoughtful design and engineering behind the Surflex System allows end users to reconfigure their space without requiring full installation teams, saving on labor costs and empowering on-site Facilities Teams to adapt their spaces as needed for company growth and expansion.

Sunon worked closely with Advantech throughout the space-planning process, developing multiple configurations to maximize efficiency while maintaining flexibility. A key requirement was the ability to easily reassign and relocate manager workstations as the organization grows. The final solution achieved both efficient space utilization and the adaptability Advantech needed for long-term change.

Beyond the workstation environment, Sunon created a cohesive furniture program across the headquarters. Materials, finishes, colors, and product styles were thoughtfully curated to complement the architecture and create visual continuity throughout the six-floor campus.

Throughout the three-year process, Sunon’s design team collaborated closely with Advantech and Covenant Design Build & Construction Management to translate the overall architectural vision into an integrated furniture solution. During installation, Sunon’s Field Project Managers worked alongside installation teams to ensure the furniture was delivered and assembled to specification.  As a furniture manufacturer, Sunon was a key partner and resource for the end user playing an integral role in the day-to-day management of the project and it’s overall successful completion.

THE RESULT

The completed headquarters is a 200,000-square-foot workplace designed around choice, connection, and adaptability.

Across six floors, a curated Sunon furniture collection creates a cohesive visual language while allowing each space to serve a distinct purpose—from welcoming reception and lounge areas to focused workstations, private offices, training spaces, conference rooms, cafés, and social settings.  The variety of space types provides Advantech with a world-class facility that accommodates different needs throughout the workday.  Focused workstation environments support individual concentration, while private offices and conference rooms provide dedicated settings for meetings and collaboration. Lounge and café areas, featuring collections such as Chen, Model, and Ducky, create more informal settings for gathering, conversation, and connection.

The result is a workplace that balances focus with collaboration, efficiency with flexibility, and consistency with choice—giving Advantech a headquarters designed to support how its people work today while allowing the environment to evolve with the organization.

The success of the project has strengthened the partnership between Advantech and Sunon and opened opportunities to new potential customers across the United States.
