To establish an internationally leading automobile R&D hub, Hyundai Motor Group opened its forward-looking digital R&D center in The Roof in Shanghai. Spanning 5200㎡ across six floors, the center accommodates more than 300 employees, with over half of them having strong software engineering backgrounds.

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect Jean Nouvel, The Roof features a skylight glass ceiling, interactive bridges, and lush greenery, creating a naturally lit workspace. However, its long and narrow structure posed a challenge for interior space planning.

Sunon transformed this limitation into an opportunity by classifying spaces according to lighting conditions. Open office areas were placed near windows, while enclosed private modules were positioned away from natural light. Dedicated seminar areas, personal workstations, meditation corners, reception zones, and locker areas were arranged to meet diverse work needs.

To enhance employee well-being, ergonomic solutions such as height-adjustable desks, light wood desks, and H2 chairs were introduced. Even the conference rooms were designed with sliding doors—closed for privacy, or opened to connect seamlessly with the main workspace.
